Lens Material
Prescription & frame type determine material choice best for each client
-
One of the most commonly used materials for lenses, CR-39 provides high clarity and is used for minimal to standard prescriptions. Cr-39 is NOT recommended for use in semi-rimless frames, rimless frames or any drill mount applications.
-
Trivex & "Poly" are considered "safety" materials. Recommended for semi-rimless, rimless or drill mount eyewear - as well as in children's frames. Achieve a thinner, lighter weight lens for minimal to standard prescriptions. For higher prescriptions "High Index" materials are preferred.
-
High index materials (1.60, 1.67, 1.74) are the thinnest, lightest weight lenses available. The level of High Index material is based on prescription strength and a clients preference for the thinnest lens possible.
-
The material all "glasses" lenses were once made of. Difficult to produce & much heavier than modern plastics, glass is presently considered a specialty lens material.
Glass provides excellent visual clarity, excellent scratch resistance & long term durability. Glass is still an option for clients seeking those qualities. Even minimal or standard prescription can feel heavy for some - Glass is not recommended for higher prescriptions or those who seek lightweight options.

Yes. We can make NON-PRESCRIPTION & SINGLE VISION lenses for our mail-in clients.
Due to our standard of quality - we generally avoid making progressives, bifocals or trifocals without proper measurements. In some cases we can determine positioning from existing lenses.

Retail clients are welcome to schedule an in person appointment at our eyewear boutique

Pupillary Distance - known as "PD"- is the distance measurement between pupils.
This measurement is typically taken by an Optician and is not always on the Dr.'s Prescription. A proper PD will contain TWO NUMBERS. This is the measurement of each pupil to the centerline of the nose.
This information is crucial to properly locate the optical center of the lenses within the frame.
-
Multi-Focal lenses - Progressives, Bifocals & Trifocals - contain multiple powers in each lens. It is ESSENTIAL each optical center be situated precisely within the frame to achieve proper vision.
Unlike Pupillary Distance - "PD" - Measuring for Multi-Focal lenses the client MUST wear the frame the lenses will be placed in.
Providing the utmost vision quality is our priority. For this reason we REQUIRE in person measurements when making Multi-Focal lenses for our retail clients.
